Called by others executive outplacement or coaching, for us it is career consulting: we do not guarantee that the candidate gets a new job. The aim of this consulting is straightforward and pragmatic – to make it comfortable and easier, for a senior professional, to build a new career, often in a new geographical and/or professional environment.
This product is frequently used when an organisation where the senior manager has been working for a long time, is now undergoing changes, modifications and transformations, which will very soon, but in a planned way, make this professional redundant. Another case that we come across often is when the individual is moving to another country due to personal reasons, and her (his) current employer cannot offer her (him) a job in that country.
In both cases the professional is currently employed and both he (she) and his (her) employer are happy with each other. In which case it comes only natural that our client is not the individual but the organisation which, as a reward for many years of work, grants the professional paid career consulting, performed by Alex Terp.
Career consulting is, in itself, a series of seminars, where the parties ask each other questions and discuss answers. Each time it is an individual program that is elaborated for every particular individual. In all cases such career consulting involves homework for both consultant and candidate; the main topics usually addressed are:
- Ways and means of looking to start a new career
- How to analyse the market and how to present self to the market
- How to build up a proper attitude and career building plan
- What particular organisations in that particular market could benefit by communicating with that candidate, who are the major decisionmakers and stakeholders within those organisations who should be our target
- Scheduling meetings of the candidate with those decisionmakers and stakeholders
- Best ways and means to construct a productive employment negotiation
As said above the aim of this consulting is not to get the candidate a new job. However we do guarantee that from the very first meeting, and with every new one, our candidate feels better about having to start a new career, and this exercise often ends up in her (him) getting several job offers.
